To provide a more spacious reading environment and facilitate more library classes and reading sharing activities, thereby enhancing students' self-directed learning abilities and establishing a campus reading culture, our school library underwent a comprehensive renovation with donations from the Board of Directors of Fukien Secondary School (Siu Sai Wan) and Wah Fung Department Store Co., Ltd.
On June 5, 2016, Professor Joseph Sung, President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the completion of the New Wah Fung Library renovation project, along with representatives from the Hong Kong Fukien Chamber of Commerce Education Fund. The renovated library not only incorporates Chinese cultural elements but also has a modern feel. The bookshelves are primarily in earth tones, complemented by green sofas, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of nature. The library is well-equipped with eight computers, a color printer, WIFI connection, a projector, and a broadcasting system for use by teachers and students.
Additionally, the library actively collaborates with various subject groups, external organizations, and other schools to promote diverse reading activities, aiming to cultivate students' lifelong learning and self-directed learning abilities, and to foster their holistic development. Examples include the school's reading reward programs "Little Fukien Literary" and "Joyful Reading Rewards," subject group collaborations such as "Subject Group Book Fairs," "Reading Clubs," and the "New Extraordinary Reading Program." To promote a reading culture on campus, the library also organizes activities such as the "Hong Kong Book Fair," "Book Fair on Campus," and "Author Talks," and leads students to participate in community reading cultural activities.
The library also coordinates various inter-school reading activities, such as the "Dynamic University," "Reading Metaverse," and "Book Lovers' Club" inter-school reading report competitions, providing more recognition and encouragement for students who love reading, and comprehensively enhancing their interest in reading. Additionally, starting from the 2022/23 academic year, the library has piloted the "Cross-Curricular Reading Program" led by the Language Department, integrating various subjects to improve students' reading strategies and critical thinking skills.
